What Hit TWA Flight 800?

What Is TWA Flight 800?

For those of you who do not remember what happened with TWA Flight 800, or have not heard of it before, TWA Flight 800 was a Boeing 747 passenger jet that departed from JFK International Airport in New York on July 17, 1996, at about 8:31 PM EST. It was destined for Rome, Italy, with a stopover in Paris, France. Just 12 minutes into this flight though, something went terribly wrong, and the jet exploded over the Atlantic Ocean, killing all 230 passengers.

What caused the explosion?

The official report states that the explosion was most likely caused by flammable vapors inside one of the fuel tanks, and was ignited by a short circuit of some kind.
There was however, immediate speculation to this theory, and many people believe that it was some sort of terrorist act. The CIA and FBI got involved with the investigation, of course, and a year and a half later, came to the conclusion that no evidence existed suggesting any type of terror-related incident.

To this day, there is still no hard evidence in fact proving that the plane did fall victim to the ignition of fuel vapors, and many people still speculate what really happened on that day. Some suggest another government coverup or that even perhaps it was a US Navy ship that fired a missile to bring the passenger plane down as some sort of training exercise or another war game. People even reported on the same day, immediately prior to the airplane exploding, seeing some sort of flare being fired off the coast of New York, around the area where the plane would have been flying over.

TWA Flight 800 Documentary

On July 17, 2013, a new documentary is being released, looking at new evidence and first-hand witness accounts that were never considered during the FBI's investigation of the passenger jet crash. The documentary is even going to interview six members of the original official crash investigation team, hired by the airliner, whose research was suppressed by the FBI's conclusive report.
