Who Is Michael Hastings?

Michael Mahon Hastings worked for BuzzFeed as a journalist, writer, and reporter. He is very well known for his reports on the Iraq War that he wrote for Newsweek, and authored the "I Lost My Love in Baghdad: A Modern War Story" in 2008, after losing his fiancee to the Iraq War. He is also blamed for the resignation of US Army general Stanley McChrystal, who played a large role commanding NATO in Afghanistan. His resignation was forced directly from president Barack Obama, after McChrystal's disrespect and critique of the president and White House staff was made public by Hastings.

How Did Michael Hastings Die?

Michael Hastings died on June 18, 2013 immediately after his Mercedes struck a tree in Hancock Park, Los Angeles, CA. The LAPD claims that there was no signs of anyone else being involved in the car crash. His vehicle mysteriously exploded immediately upon collision with the tree.
Just 15 hours before he was killed, however, he was in contact with two WikiLeaks attorneys in seek of legal advice, and allegedly sent the following email:

Was the FBI investigating Michael Hastings?
As you can see, the email suggests that Michael Hastings thought he was being investigated by the FBI. Notice he also states that he is onto something big, and needs to be off the radar for awhile.

Michael Mahon Hastings was just 33 years old, and will be remembered for his courageous writings.
